Your OB monitors your pregnancy.
We help you thrive in it.
Your OB appointments are essential โ and they cover about 12 minutes per trimester of what actually happens inside your body during pregnancy. The nutrition, supplementation, thyroid monitoring, metabolic health, and postpartum preparation that determines how you feel, how your baby develops, and how quickly you recover? That's the gap we fill.
"I came to Dr. Zen early in my pregnancy without an OB yet. She filled every gap โ ordered labs, curated my prenatal vitamins, answered every question. I would recommend her to all women."
โ Kirsten H., NMD Wellness PatientYour OB is exceptional at what they do.
Prenatal visits weren't designed for this.
A standard prenatal visit is 10โ15 minutes. It covers blood pressure, fundal height, fetal heart rate, and the essentials of medical monitoring. This is exactly what it should do โ and it doesn't leave room for anything else. Not in-depth nutrition. Not evidence-based supplementation. Not metabolic screening beyond the standard glucose test. Not the conversation about how what you do now shapes who you will be postpartum. That space doesn't exist in conventional prenatal care. We created it.
Essential medical monitoring
The depth your OB doesn't have time for
The pillars of pregnancy care
that change your outcomes.
Every one of these areas has meaningful, evidence-based impact on how you feel during pregnancy, how your baby develops, and how smoothly you recover postpartum. None of them fit into a standard prenatal appointment.
Prenatal nutrition
Not generic "eat well" advice โ specific guidance on protein targets, nutrient-dense foods by trimester, managing nausea without losing nutrition, and dietary strategies for blood sugar, iron, and fetal development.
Supplement strategy
Your prenatal vitamin is a starting point. Based on your labs and health history, Dr. Zen builds a targeted protocol โ omega-3 DHA, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, choline, and others โ in the right forms and doses for your specific pregnancy.
Thyroid monitoring
Thyroid hormone requirements increase by 25โ50% in pregnancy. For women with Hashimoto's or thyroid history, close monitoring with pregnancy-specific TSH targets (below 2.5 in the first trimester) is essential for both maternal health and fetal neurological development.
Blood sugar & metabolic health
Proactive blood sugar monitoring from early pregnancy โ not just a single glucose test at 28 weeks. For women with PCOS, insulin resistance, or gestational diabetes history, early intervention meaningfully reduces risk and improves outcomes.
Iron & ferritin
Iron demand increases significantly in pregnancy and many women become deficient without knowing it. We track ferritin โ not just hemoglobin โ throughout pregnancy and replete proactively to support energy, brain health, and postpartum recovery.
Movement & physical wellbeing
Evidence-based movement guidance for each trimester โ what supports pelvic floor health, what to modify and when, how to stay strong for labor and delivery, and how exercise choices now affect recovery speed postpartum.
Mood & mental wellbeing
Prenatal anxiety and depression are common and often undertreated. Nutritional factors โ omega-3s, B vitamins, iron, vitamin D โ have meaningful evidence in supporting mood during pregnancy alongside conventional care.
Postpartum preparation
What you do during pregnancy directly shapes your postpartum recovery. Building nutritional reserves, optimizing thyroid and metabolic function, and having a postpartum plan before you deliver โ not after โ changes the trajectory of your fourth trimester entirely.
Each phase has different needs.
Your care evolves with them.
We typically see patients once per trimester โ timed to address what's most clinically relevant at each stage, and to work alongside rather than duplicate your OB's schedule.

Dr. Alissia Zenhausern-Pfeiffer,
NMD, FABNE
As a mother of two who navigated her own pregnancy with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and gestational diabetes, Dr. Zen understands pregnancy from the inside โ not just from a textbook. She knows what it means to manage your own health while growing a baby, and to worry about what the labs mean and whether you're doing enough.
She built the pregnancy support model at NMD Wellness because she experienced firsthand what's missing in conventional prenatal care โ and because the research is clear that what happens in the nine months of pregnancy directly shapes the postpartum experience. She is here to make sure you walk into delivery well-prepared and walk out of postpartum feeling like yourself again.
